{"id":27906,"date":"2026-03-04T19:36:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T17:36:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/docs\/how-do-i-change-my-php-version-for-a-domain-or-subdomain\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T17:03:24","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:03:24","password":"","slug":"how-do-i-change-my-php-version-for-a-domain-or-subdomain","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/en\/docs\/how-do-i-change-my-php-version-for-a-domain-or-subdomain\/","title":{"rendered":"How do I change my PHP version for a domain or subdomain?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"CommentchangermaversionPHPpourundomaineousousdomaine?-InterfaceCpanel\"><strong>Cpanel interface<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Connect to your Cpanel.  <br\/>In the Software section you will find :  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-16-12.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMultiPHP Manager allows you to set the \u201cEasyApache PHP or CloudLinux PHP\u201d version through Cpanel.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-17-14.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSelect PHP Version\u201d allows you to set the PHP version of CloudLinux on which you can manage PHP extensions and options.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>NB: <\/strong>EasyApache is available up to version php 7.4, while the CloudLinux version is available up to version 8.1.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In practice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want to install a new version of Joomla which requires a minimum version of php7.2.5 but recommends using php8.0 or higher.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this case, we\u2019ll be using a php8.1 version of CloudLinux. (in order to manually manage php options and extensions.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"CommentchangermaversionPHPpourundomaineousousdomaine?-MultiPHPManager\"><strong>MultiPHP Manager<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First of all, we need to specify in the <strong>MultiPHP Manager <\/strong>that we want to use Cloudlinux (alt-phpxx) and not EasyApache (ea-phpxx), if you haven\u2019t already done so:  <\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select the desired domain or sub-domain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the drop-down menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose the php version you want (PHP8.1(alt-php81) in our case)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on \u201cApply<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-25-4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br\/>Then you can see that the PHP version has changed:  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-25-36.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"CommentchangermaversionPHPpourundomaineousousdomaine?-SelectPHPVersion\"><strong>Select PHP Version<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will now define the use of php via CloudLinux :<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-26-39.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our case, we\u2019ll click on<strong>\u201cnative (5.6) (current)<\/strong>\u201d and then on version<strong>\u201c8.1<\/strong>\u201c.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-28-3.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then click on<strong>\u201cset as current<\/strong>\u201c.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-28-31.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On my domain, I see that the PHP version is still not managed by CloudLinux :  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-31-16.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply our CloudLinux configuration, we need to click on \u201cUse PHP Selector\u201d.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-32-5.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then confirm the action:  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-32-33.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we have the CloudLinux logo:  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-33-4.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"CommentchangermaversionPHPpourundomaineousousdomaine?-Lesextensions\"><strong>Extensions  <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the extensions menu you can manage the add-ons for the php version you are currently using:  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cheops-technology.ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image-2024-2-8_11-36-3.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need to check for errors such as \u201cextension php-zip is missing\u201d during installation.
