1) Platform access requirements:
- You must have access to Veeam Cloud Connect (login and password) sent to the requestor’s email address on the hosting contract.
- Veeam Backup & Replication license.
- High-speed Internet access, minimum 100/100 symmetrical for standard use (this indicator remains theoretical, depending on the volume of data to be transferred).
- Follow the flow matrix below:
| Cloud gateway | Veeam Backup & Replication server IP | veeam-cloudconnect.dfinet.ch | TCP | 6180 | Communication between your on-site Veeam server and the VeeamCloudConnect solution provided by DFI. |
| WAN accelerator | WAN accelerator gateway IP | veeam-cloudconnect.dfinet.ch | TCP | 6165 | If you have a WAN accelerator gateway, you can use it to compress data between your Veeam infrastructure and the VeeamCloudConnect platform provided by DFI. |
- You can test the communication between your infrastructure and the VCC platform with the following command:
telnet inf-bk-04.dfinet.ch 6180 |
Or the following commands with WAN accelerator between the two sites:
telnet inf-bk-04.dfinet.ch 6180telnet inf-bk-04.dfinet.ch 6165 |
2) Connect Veeam Backup & Replication to Veeam Cloud Connect:
- Still in the “Backup Infrastructure” section, select “Service providers” then “Add Service Provider”.
- Enter the DNS name of the Veeam Cloud Connect server: veeam-cloudconnect.dfinet.ch
- Then add a credential using the “Add” button and the information you received by e-mail.
- Complete the process by simply following the final steps.
From this point on, you’re ready to perform remote backups and restores, simply by choosing the “Cloud repository” as your backup destination.
3) Test remote backup:
- Still in the “Backup Infrastructure” section, select “Service providers” then “Add Service Provider”.
- Enter the DNS name of the Veeam Cloud Connect server: veeam-cloudconnect.dfinet.ch
- Then add a credential using the “Add” button and the information you received by e-mail.
- Complete the process by simply following the final steps.
From this point on, you’re ready to perform remote backups and restores, simply by choosing the “Cloud repository” as your backup destination.
4) Perform a remote restore:
Two situations are possible:
1. You have lost your entire infrastructure, including the Veeam Backup and Replication server, so you need to reinstall a VM with Veeam, taking care to check steps 1 and 2 of this procedure.
Then simply continue as follows:
- In the “Backup Infrastructure” section, select “Backup Repositories”.
- Select the “Cloud” entry in the right-hand panel
- Right-click “Rescan Repository
Now that backups have been recognized, restoration can begin.
- In the “Backup & Replication” section, select “Cloud”.
- Then select the backup to restore in the right-hand section.
- Click on the “Entire VM” button at the top of the page
- Follow the steps as required. For the test, it’s easiest to leave the default values.
2. Your Veeam server is still available but you want to restore a virtual machine from VeeamCloudConnect
In this case, proceed as follows:
- In the “Backup & Replication” section, select “Cloud”.
- Then select the backup to restore in the right-hand section.
- Click on the “Entire VM” button at the top of the page
- Follow the steps as required. For the test, it’s easiest to leave the default values.
